HERSHEY, Pa., Feb. 11, 2015 – Hershey Area Playhouse is holding auditions for its upcoming production of the wacky comedy, Lend Me A Tenor, on Sunday, Feb. 22 and Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. Callbacks, if needed, will be Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.
Auditions for four male and four female roles will take place at the Playhouse, located at 830 Cherry Drive, Hershey. Those auditioning do not have to come with a prepared monologue; excerpts from the script will be provided. In addition, three of the four male roles will need to “learn” (with direction provided) how to sing Italian opera.
Lend Me A Tenor, written by York, Pa., native Ken Ludwig, is set in September 1934 at the Cleveland Grand Opera Company. The world’s most talented tenor, Tito Merelli, has arrived to perform Otello. Through a series of tranquilizers and confusions, Tito is mistaken for dead and the scramble ensues to find a replacement for the world-renowned performer. The misunderstandings and troubles of mistaken identity will keep audiences laughing in this delightful musical comedy.
The show is being directed by theatre veteran Jeff Cartwright, who most recently directed Leading Ladies at the Playhouse. Performances will be held April 16-19 and April 23-26 at the Playhouse.
Additional audition information, including an audition form, is available on the Playhouse’s website, www.HersheyAreaPlayhouse.com.
